Connect AI Chat for Website to Claude or Grok
What the connector does
The connector lets an AI app such as Claude or Grok read your AI Chat for Website account and, if you allow it, act in it. You ask in plain language and the app looks up your conversations, leads, visitors and traffic for you. With write access it can also reply to a visitor, add answers for your site's assistant, or read your website again.
Some things you can ask:
- Is anyone waiting for a reply on my website right now?
- Summarise yesterday's conversations and list the leads that came out of them.
- What did visitors ask this week that the assistant couldn't answer?
- Write an answer to the shipping question from the gaps and add it.
- Reply to the visitor asking about pricing and tell them we'll call tomorrow morning.
- Which pages did people read before they asked for a call back?
The app works as you. It sees the sites in your account and nothing else, and it can do what your role in the portal allows: an owner can use every tool, an agent can use the ones marked "Everyone" below.
The address
Every app connects to the same address:
https://app.aichatforwebsite.com/mcp
You will find it in the portal too, under your account menu, Connected apps.
Add it to Claude
This works on claude.ai and in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. A connector you add on one shows up on the others.
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it AI Chat for Website and paste the address above. Leave the OAuth client ID and client secret under Advanced settings empty: Claude registers itself.
- Choose Connect. Sign in to AI Chat for Website if you are asked, then approve on the page that follows (see Approving access).
- In a chat, turn the connector on from the tools menu and ask your question.
On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, an owner of the Claude organisation may have to allow custom connectors first.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http aichat https://app.aichatforwebsite.com/mcp
Then type /mcp in Claude Code and pick aichat to sign in. Because Claude Code runs on your
computer, the approval page says so.
Add it to Grok
- Go to grok.com/connectors and choose New Connector, then Custom.
- Name it AI Chat for Website and paste the address above as the server URL.
- Add the connector. Grok sends you to AI Chat for Website to sign in and approve.
Approving access
Whichever app you use, you end up on our approval page. It shows:
- the app's name, marked unverified because the app chose that name itself;
- where your approval is sent back to, such as
claude.aiorgrok.com. If that is not the app you are connecting, choose Deny; - the account the app will reach, and your role in it;
- what Read allows and what Write allows.
Read is always included. Write is ticked, and you can untick it to give the app read-only access. A read-only app does not see the write tools at all. To change your mind later, disconnect and connect again.
Tools
These are all the tools the connector offers. Most AI apps ask you before they use a tool that changes something.
| Tool | What it does | Access | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|---|
list_sites | Lists the websites in your account. Claude starts here, since most other tools need a site. | Read | Everyone |
get_site_overview | Visits, chats, leads and top pages for a site over the last 1 to 90 days. | Read | Everyone |
list_conversations | Recent conversations: all of them, the ones waiting for a person, the ones the assistant is handling, or closed ones. | Read | Everyone |
get_conversation | The transcript of one conversation, with the visit it came from and the pages the visitor read. | Read | Everyone |
list_leads | Contact details visitors left, by status: new, contacted or closed. | Read | Everyone |
list_visitors | Visits to a site: everyone, who is on the site now, who chatted, who became a lead. | Read | Everyone |
get_visit | One visit: the pages in order and any conversations. | Read | Everyone |
list_people | People who gave an email address or phone number, with a search. | Read | Everyone |
get_person | One person's visits, conversations and leads. | Read | Everyone |
get_page_stats | Which pages get read, and for how long. | Read | Everyone |
list_gaps | Questions the assistant could not answer, grouped, so you can fill them. | Read | Owners |
list_qa_pairs | The questions and answers you wrote for the assistant. | Read | Owners |
get_usage | Your plan, and how much of it this month has used. | Read | Owners |
reply_to_conversation | Sends a message to the visitor in a conversation, as you. The visitor sees it at once. | Write | Everyone |
close_conversation | Ends a conversation. The visitor sees that the chat has ended. | Write | Everyone |
update_lead | Marks a lead new, contacted or closed. | Write | Everyone |
add_qa_pair | Adds a question and its answer. Visitors get that answer from then on. | Write | Owners |
answer_gaps | Answers a group of unanswered questions, which also adds the answer to what the assistant knows. | Write | Owners |
recrawl_site | Reads your website again, after you change it. | Write | Owners |
ask_site_assistant | Asks your site's assistant a question as a test, without a visitor. It uses the site's daily allowance like a real chat. | Write | Owners |
What the app receives
- What the tools return: conversation transcripts, leads and the contact details in them, visits and the pages read, and your sites' numbers. That is what the portal would show you.
- Visitor IP addresses are left out of everything the connector returns.
- Once the app has it, what happens to it is up to the app's provider (Anthropic for Claude, xAI for Grok) under your agreement with them. Connect an app only if your own privacy notice covers sharing visitor conversations with it.
Disconnecting
In the portal, open your account menu, then Connected apps, and choose Disconnect next to the app. It loses access at once. You can also remove the connector in the app itself. When someone leaves your team, their connections end with them.
If something goes wrong
- "Only an owner of this account can do that." The tool is for owners and you are an agent. Ask an owner, or ask the owner to change your role.
- The app says it has read-only access. Write was unticked when you approved. Disconnect, connect again and leave Write ticked.
- The app asks you to sign in again. Its access expired or was disconnected. Connect again.
- A tool says to agree to the terms. Our terms changed since you last signed in. Sign in to the portal once and agree, then try again.
