How to add AI chat to your website
Setting up takes six steps and one line of code. You try the assistant yourself in the portal before a visitor ever sees it. At the end, visitors get answers at any hour, leads and missed chats arrive by email, and you see who is on your site.
Sign up and enter your website address
Go to the sign-up page and enter your name, company, email, and password. We email a six-digit code to confirm the address. You do not need a credit card to sign up.
Let it read your site
AI Chat for Website follows your sitemap and the links between pages, and it respects your robots.txt. Pages built with JavaScript are opened in a headless browser and read once they have finished loading. It then writes a short description of your business, which you can edit.
Try the assistant in the portal
Ask the questions your visitors usually ask and read the answers. Test questions do not count toward your monthly message allowance. Add notes for facts your website does not mention, and list the key links, such as pricing, contact or booking, that the assistant should send visitors to.
Match the chat widget to your brand
The portal suggests looks based on the colors found on your site. You choose light, dark or automatic (which follows the visitor's device), and set the title, the launcher button's text, the greeting and the corner.
Paste one line of code
Paste the script tag into your site's page template so it loads on every page. Place it before the closing body tag or in the custom code section your platform provides. The script has no dependencies and builds the widget inside a shadow root, so your site's CSS cannot break it and its CSS cannot leak into your site. The portal checks that the widget is live after you paste it.
<script async src="https://app.aichatforwebsite.com/w.js" data-site="YOUR-SITE-KEY"></script>Mark yourself available and invite your team
Turn on "Available for live chat" in the portal and visitors who ask for a person reach you. Invite team members by email, as owners or as agents who work the inbox and leads. When nobody is available, the visitor is asked for contact details and you get a missed-chat email.
Where the code goes on your platform
On WordPress, download our plugin from the Install page in the portal, upload it under Plugins, and paste the site key once. On Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, and Webflow, paste the code wherever the platform lets you add custom code to every page. Depending on the platform that is called footer code, a theme file, code injection or custom code settings. Some platforms allow this only on certain plans.
After it is live
From here the assistant answers visitors from your pages, and the portal shows you who visited and what they asked.
It keeps itself current
The site is read again on its own, every week on paid plans and every month on the Free plan. Pages that have not changed are skipped, and pages that are gone are dropped. You can also start a re-read from the portal.
You see who visits and what they ask
The portal shows who is on your site now, the pages they read, and the source and campaign they came from, next to the conversations and leads. It lists gaps: questions a visitor needed answered that your site did not cover. Visits are anonymous until the visitor gives details in the chat. If you would rather not record visits, switch the site to chat-only mode.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add AI chat to my website?
Sign up, enter your website address, and try the assistant in the portal once the site is read. Then paste one line of code into your site's page template. The portal checks that the widget is live.
Do I need a developer?
No, if you can paste code into your site's settings. Otherwise, send the one line of code to whoever looks after the site.
Will the widget slow my site down or break its design?
The script loads asynchronously, has no dependencies, and lives in a shadow root. The site's CSS cannot break it, and its CSS cannot leak into the site.
Does it work with WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace and Wix?
Yes, on any website where you can paste a script tag into the page template. This includes those platforms when their plan allows custom code.
Can I remove it later?
Yes. Delete the line of code from your site and the widget is gone.
Can I use it on more than one website?
Yes, up to the number of sites in your plan. Each site has its own key, knowledge, and settings.
